This was the Ryan Reynold fest, but that kid was also really solid. Good movie. Simple, but the acting compensated for it’s flaws. Behind it all, the angle about grief was really solid. Reynolds and Ruffalo sells the fuck out of it.

Spider-Man No Way Home

Most fun i'd had with Marvel in a long time. It isn't doing anything really different to the formula, but it's impressive getting so many people back for this movie. You can tell Dafoe and Molina were having an awesome time. Same for Garfield and Maguire (looked up his IMDB and holy shit he's really just been cashing those Spider-Man checks for a long time huh?). Looking forward to Strange for Raimi, and I like where the movie left things. I hated how fucking stupid Peter was though. We are supposed to think you're a super genius but you keep making the worst possible decision with effects for the world/universe/multiverse over and over and over and over. It felt really out of character.

I actually just finished Far from Home.

Fun. The 2 credit sequences were the best parts.

NO WAY HOME is a blast. It's got some serious logic bombs in there but it moves so well and hits the right beats so you don't care.

But yeah, the film doesn't happen if Spidey and Strange take even 5 minutes to actually think things through before casting that first spell. For two geniuses, that's kinda a head scratcher.

Jackass Forever was pretty funny but overall not as a good as the previous outings. I blame covid, lack of Dunn and Bam (say what you will but some of the best bits were when he was getting fucked with), and the new people (except for Rachel and Poopies) didn't really have much to do. Was a weird entry in the series to be honest. I did laugh a whole bunch however. Poor Ehren. Those new cup tests were fucking BRUTAL and that bear gag was terrifying.

This is also the most dick in a movie that isn't classified as gay porn. Gotdamn. So much dick lol.

Yesterday morning I was fucking around a local thrift store and found tons of For Your Consideration screeners circa 2011/2012. One of them was for The Descendants which I hadn't seen since the theater.

Revisited it on Hulu that evening and... we don't deserve Alexander Payne. There's an unmistakable authenticity in how he tells these slice of life stories set in different parts of the U.S. In that sense, he is the finest American filmmaker we have.

The film itself remains as poignant and funny in how it tackles coping with grief and saying goodbye. Even if we were in bad spaces when our loved ones departed and George Clooney has never been better.

Following that, Hulu suggested The Insider. Sure why not? I'll just watch the awesome opening with Christopher Plummer's Mike Wallace standing his ground against terrorists during an interview.

I watched the whole damn movie. One of my all-time favorite films and the most rewatchable. Yes Crowe deserved all the praise he got. But Pacino (and Plummer) got shafted considering it was the last time he's been truly great and not a trace of his Pacino-isms he got lost in. Fuck I love that movie.

Turning Red. Dug it a bunch overall but LOVED the animation of the facial expressions and body language used. Mei Mei's fat little friend was the MVP. She had me laughing anytime she was on screen.

The Eternals

So the best scenes were the after credits scenes. They ruined Ikaris. And Kingo. Fucking hell. So poorly directed. Artsy and yet boring. There were some good scenes, but overall, what a missed opportunity.

I kind of loved The Eternals and hated that after credit scene (if it's the one with the CGI Shrek thing) Felt like it was in a completely different movie BUT I knew nothing about the characters to begin with so there wasn't anything to ruin for me. The only weak link was Jolie IMO. I liked the slow pace and lack of constant jokes honestly.

honestly, Jolie was the best part of the film for me. Gemma Chan was the weak link...she couldn't emote for shit. Very pretty actress and I've seen her better in other films but she was all thumbs in this one.

It's not a BAD movie...it's just inert.

Odd, Jolie to me seemed bored (even though that was part of her character) throughout most of it. I agree with Chan. I really liked Barry Keoghen or whatever.

Druig was cool. It’s not bad. Jolie was actually ok in that. It was just bland.
