Honestly, I finalize the last entries in my Best of 2017, I do have to say that I, Tonya fits into a pattern.

This year was the Year of the Scumbag.

Just a few films left on my "To Watch" list but I don't see my Top 2 changing.

Netflix was dying to get their hands on this. And it makes since. This is a Netflix film through and through. Not a compliment.

It so desperately tries to do the Scorsese-thing stylistically (specifically Goodfellas/Casino/Wolf of Wall Street). But those brought an insight to a world alien to most of us. We look from afar and gasp at the insanity.

Here it's just white trash onscreen and they didn't go far enough for my tastes. If you're gonna tackle this, go all out. The raves it's getting are kinda baffling.

The Shape of Water.

Not a del Toro guy. Save for his Spanish language films which are works of art. Masterworks with a capital M. But he is lost to his fanboyisms in the English language films and gets an eternal free pass for shit-stained garbage. Not unlike Johnson and Wright.

But this. is. Great! Easily his best American film and up there with Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone. Maybe... just maybe his straight-up best film. Need to think about it more. Oh and be prepared. You will cry your eyes out.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Man, haven't seen this since I was kid. Still totally holds up. The practical effects are great, the kids work, and Frewer and Moranis are awesome. RIP Antie. Still sad.

Creep 2 - Totally different film from the first, and probably better. Not sure how I feel about the ending, but in for part 3.

I’m still not convinced on the motivation to get Bradley to Red Leaf but everything else is so good and intense that I don't care. If you had told me even three weeks ago that Vince Vaughn would be a badass I would have called you a damn liar.

I also didn't care for the last scene in CREEP 2 but am definitely in for whatever happens next.
