  • watched Terminator Genysis again last night with Ceej and Lesley. I think I'm in the camp of really liking it now. It has major issues but the second time around it was much more entertaining for me.

Really, everyone in this is great. It ends up being a traditional rom com by the end but the performances are engaging and there are enough jokes throughout to make it worth it.

      *Golf Clap* And agreed.

I didn't hate it and I didn't love it. Schumer works in incredibly small doses. Natasha Leggero has the same act and does it 8000 times better. But, she's not an attention whore with rockin' tits.

        • SPECTRE - Jen and I enjoyed this, as much as we've enjoyed every other James Bond film. Better than Quantum of Solace (I still like that, though), not quite as good as Skyfall, but a great entry on its own merits. The ending echoes Skyfall, setting up a new status quo for the series going forward. Craig, Fiennes, etc. did a great job in this, but MVP goes to Waltz - loved his character arc, though the reason he's after Bond is cliche as fuck.

Also, the cars. Jen went apeshit over the cars and I don't blame her. I want an Aston Martin DB10 so bad it hurts. Off to Kickstarter!

          • Trainwreck. Not terrible. Not great. Thank god that it didn't feel like a 3 hour movie like most Apatow flicks though.

That being said it was really depressing to watch for Lesley and I.

            • We enjoyed TRAINWRECK when we saw it theatrically, but it's a 'one and done' kind of film. I'll never watch it all the way through again, that's for sure.

              • Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Meh. It was all right, I guess. But it had a "been there, done that" kind of fell to a lot of it. The Josh Brolin storyline was the best of the bunch, but that's not really saying much. The first one seemed to have so much more. . . impact. The shocking level of violence in the original added atmosphere to things. Here, it was kind of cartoonish, like the end of Kill Bill V. 1. It was almost window dressing, after a while. I would like to buy the original on DVD, but this one? I have no desire to own it.
I like the way the line runs up the back of the stocking.

                • I liked it, Ig, but the stories weren't as substantial as the ones in the first flick. It just didn't stick with me like the first film did.

Still, Eva Green was the MVP in this - girlfriend can chew scenery with the best of 'em.

I liked it. It falls a bit at the end, but overall, I really liked that one.

While I haven't seen Sin City 2, Eva Green' scenery-chewing skills are totally eclipsed by her magnificent breasts.

Don't know if it's her acting skills, her femme fatale image (seriously, those eyes of hers betray a burning intelligence, and that smile - I had a friend who used to smile like that, and was never 100% sure if he was pleased to see me or if he was going to go for my throat).

Yeah, she's 100% on my list. But only if I ask her nicely. And offered to mow her lawn and wash her car. And if Jen says it's OK, which means she gets to add someone to her list. 'Cause ya gotta be fair.

                        Oh man. The Dreamers. ggggg....

And somehow, she's totally non-erotic in Penny Dreadful.

                        • Have yet to see The Dreamers, must rectify, yadda, yadda, yadda...

She has a few sexy moments in Penny Dreadful, but I'm enjoying watching her act more in this case. Vanessa's character arc is really well done and Green looks like she's having the time of her life, acting-wise.

That scene with the seance in the first season - wow!

                            • The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? - A pretty solid documentary about the flick that never happened, with interviews featuring Tim Burton, Jon Peters, Kevin Smith and lots of BTS footage of Nic Cage rocking several prototype Superman suits.

This was going to be an interesting entry into the Superman franchise, but the general vibe I got, mostly from Peters, is that few ever really got what Superman was about. Peters emphasizing a street-level take to the character (Superman was gonna street-fight with some ninjas at one point. Ugh.), and his behavior to some folks during pre-production (putting headlocks on production artists?), really makes him look dickish and someone who's trying way too hard to be a tough guy.

Burton, to his credit, was trying to work outside of his comfort zone (Gothic, dark, dreary and moody vibes), and go for some brightness, but when you see where the final costumes were heading (hint: black), he was starting to retreat back to his shadows. I will say, though, his ideas for Brainiac were pretty slick, and would love to see that take in a future film. The final suit they would've used for the film was pretty true to the comics, yet hued close to Burton's first Batman outfit. They address the backlash with casting Cage, likening it to Keaton in Batman - maybe Cage could've pulled it off, but my gut tells me it was going to be an epic miscast. Cage is a great actor when he's on point, but this was always going to be "that's Nicholas Cage" as opposed to "that's Superman", y'know?.

Nic Cage does look ridiculous in the first attempts at Superman's costume (think Tommy Wiseau with a cape), and some of his ideas re: Superman/Clark Kent kind of had me scratching my head a bit. He, like most everyone involved, were thinking WAY too hard about a character who's actually pretty easy to get, even throwing in angst and emotional baggage that just doesn't exist or is necessary.

Really good doc here - worth a viewing or two for the design work alone and a great insight as to how folks deal with movie making for a big ass company.
