Non spoilers: I dug it. Not the best horror movie in the last decade that people were claiming it to be, but it's a well made and well shot flick. I didn't find it scary in the least however. The soundtrack was DOPE.

The idea of turning the killer into a STD was awesome and pretty fucking original. Butttt they didn't play enough with that idea in myu opinion. It was pretty cut and dry with no real surprises in my opinion. The few times they did try to creep you out with the "creature" kind of worked but mostly I was bored with just having random people walking. I liked the fucking creepy tall entity, the piss girl, etc.. but I expected more from the way everyone was blowing this movie. I'm a tad confused by the ending though. So Paul didn't fuck the hookers and instead just decided to keep out walking the the monster? The way they were dressed made it look liek they were angels, and while I appreciate the fact they didn't feel the need to explain anything, I felt like it ended without earning it.

We went to see TRAIN WRECK but it was sold out, so we got into a showing of this that was just starting. Very good, not great. Michael Douglas is fantastic, and his first appearance (where he's de-aged) is a jaw dropper.

Action is ok. Effects are decent. I expected more humor but what was there was ok.

I'd give it a 7/10.

X-Men DOFP Rogue Cut.

Dug the shit outta it. I mean, Rogue was in it for like 5 mins or some shit, but everything else they added was pretty great. Some sweet alternate scenes with some fucking sweet action beats, A ALMOST SEX SCENE WITH BEAST AND MYSTIQUE OHMYGODYOUGUYS, and some other stuff. Since I didn't own the original DOFP this was was a no-brainer. But man I feel bad for Paquin. She was worthless in these movies.

Inside Out

Well that was great. Very very well thought, and the more I think of it, the more I like it.

Finished the Babadook late last night. It seems there are fewer issues with Netflix late at night. I guess it's usage volume in the neighborhood or something. Anyway, totally legit horror flick. All the hype is justified, and it is easily one of the best horror movies of the last few years.

I picked up the video with the Pop up Book cover.

TOTALLY groove on that flick. Truly unsettling. And smart.

Changing titles, I have to admit to binging on Captain America: Winter Soldier for several weeks now. Prolly watched it five or six times. So much smarts and subtlety for a tentpole.

Or it could just be Scarlett. I'm willing to concede the possibility.....

Oculus was pretty much as good as the Babadook, IMO. Nice creeping dread and very spooky, with no cheap jump scares or torture porn (although the scene with the light bulb was EVIL). Very well crafted, with the protagonists slipping in and out of the past, and the demon manipulating their perception of reality. A film you need to pay attention to. So well done.

I don't get that as being the sole motivator. Sure, it works as a sequel seed, but the flat, circular nature of time implied by the resemblance between that night and, you know, THAT night was probably more the point.

Just watched this last night. Agree with pretty much all of this, effective little horror flick with a great concept and well shot. Soundtrack was sooooo dope felt like I was watching a Carpenter flick. Like Carpenter, I don't know if the movie was trying for 'scares' so much as just an oppressing feeling of dread and hopelessness.. But a couple more memorable 'its' like the giant and piss one could have gone a long way. Though the old lady one did her damn job, brrr

My interpretation of the end was that

Paul slept with one of the hookers, however they can't be sure if that hooker was killed by 'it' before she slept with someone else.. You can see someone following them down the road in the last shot. Nice and ambiguous enough for me
