OCULUS- good and creepy right up to the point they decided to try to make a franchise rather than a standalone story. It was a bummer to see it stumble at the 1 yard line.

I had to watch it in pieces and was stayed up late to finish last night. Then it ended and I was super disappointed. I am curious if it had a real ending or if management got involved at some point and said "hey, let's make this an anthology following the mirror and crank one out every year like SAW!"

it sure felt like that. Slater and Starbuck were pretty great in it. Still not a fan of Karen Gillan or whatever.

Ed Zwick got lucky with Glory. But, that film had legendary cinematography and technical work. This is just the movie that introduced Western audiences to Ken Watanabe 18 years after the fact.

Still had the Coolest Ninja scene in a Western movie ever.

The title still belongs to the still underrated The Hunted (aka Christophe Lambert is useless and no one cares).

Last Samurai is great. Rob, get on that.

Oculus was pretty serviceable, but I was hoping for more.. scare/dread stuff like near the beginning with the cloaked mannequins. Still, I'd watch a painting of Karen Gillan dry, so there's that.

Babadook sooo good.

It's a fine movie, despite the obvious fact that Lambert was inserted in it just to get the movie made. The real stars are the samurai dude and the ninja.

I bet the blu ray IS gorgeous for JA. The production design was quite epic and wonderful. Too bad the story was complete and utter SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT.

THE EQUALIZER- the Return of John Creasy. I would watch a series of movies where Denzel just takes revenge on people. It was good.

THE BOXTROLLS- I was hoping this would've been better than it was. The world was more interesting than the story.

THE MONEY PIT- I remember this being more funny than it is. It's weird to watch Tom Hanks before he was TOM HANKS.

WOULD YOU RATHER?- this is very much in the vein of CHEAP THRILLS or 13 SINS. Except those are better. The saving grace of this one is that Jeffrey Combs is great. Theu cut away from the gore, which I was okay with because there was one choice I was NOT on board with. Even though they only got close to showing it, I couldn't deal. Oh, and Sasha Grey tries to use some kind of vaguely southern accent? It was weird.

Next up is OPEN WINDOWS, which I didn't realize has been on Instant since February. I loved TIMECRIMES and GRAND PIANO so your recommendation algorithm is fucked up, Netflix.
