    • Out of Sight was bretty gud as far as the track selection and use goes.

Now if we're talking score, I'd vote for Solaris.

      • You're Next.

If this is what the next generation of horror filmmakers have to offer, I'll wait for someone else to take up the mantle.

Not a single identifiable or relatable character to name. A bunch of cyphers being killed by cyphers with equally vague backstories for the most ridiculous reasons. And all portrayed by terrible actors. And shot in such a nauseating, verité style for the sake of what I can only assume is budgetary. Sounds like a great time for everyone.

Maybe I'm growing out of the horror genre, but even the goobers who were routinely fed to the meat grinder at Crystal Lake had some personality beyond being shouting assholes, even if they were portraying stock characters.

Maybe that was the point, to actively cheer the demise of such an awful, shrieking WASP party. Well, I've seen that already with numerous horror films.

Logic is cast aside in favor of these ridiculous swerves in plot to the detriment of the believability of the film's reality. It's dime-store shock nonsense that weakens the end result every single time. If they had identifiable or relatable characters to hang this all on, maybe they could accomplish something different, but as is, it is this ugly exercise where new ground is never broken and I'm left to wonder why I watched this dreck in the first place.

This is the first negative thing I've seen for this flick. I haven't seen it, but I have a feeling I'll agree with you based on my lack of interest from the trailers.

              • Really?

Well, I don't mean to be a contrarian, but for me, the advertised "home invasion horror with gallows humor" angle fell flat on its facehole.

                Maybe you'll enjoy it, I don't know.

I really, really, really got into it when I saw it last year. But, recent viewings are starting to cool me on it.

                      • I enjoyed You're Next a lot, enough (and with enough booze in me) that I hyperbolized after first viewing. There are decisions the characters make that irritate me, but it's still a really well-made bunch of fun. But, despite my initial reaction, it's no Cabin in the Woods or Drag Me to Hell.

I'll defend it for having an interesting female protagonist though. Good progression for her and a solid performance that doesn't rely on sex appeal (though I personally think she's hot as Hell).
I experienced an invasion of my mind by a transcendentally rational mind, as if I had been insane all my life and suddenly I had become sane.

                          Easy game time:

                          Better OR Worse than:

                          Iron Man 2

                          Thor 2

                          • I'm of the mind that IM2 is the weakest of all of the marvel movies yet I still really enjoy it while Thor 2 is probably my favorite of all the Marvel movies and one of the better sequels to come out in a long time.

I really liked it. Really really fun.

And Troy, rate it with smiley faces.
