Spent the weekend watching Football and the few theatrical screeners I got sent.
1) Fruitvale Station - solid acting, half assed movie.
2) Philomena - Loved it. Judi Dench comes across as a real person for the first time in forever.
3) The Book Thief - Period Piece of Shit.
4) American Hustle - Second time watching. David O Russell needs to make this his last prestige flick and go back to weird movies.
5) Walking with Dinosaurs (2013) - Apparently, this was the original doc before FOX fucked with it. I haven't seen the 3D version, but word of mouth is ass.
6) Believe - Don't grant false praise to Bieber or else they think you like him
7) Walter Mitty - Ben Stiller wants to be taken seriously, but it's not happening. Cue Zoolander 2: The Legend Continues.
8) Anchorman 2 (theatrical outing) - Unnecessary sequel, but I liked it.My readers come to me for my thoughts and opinions. I've built myself into a brand

ANCHORMAN 2
It was...OK. The jokes that hit are really damned funny (and many of them DO hit pretty hard), but the last 15 minutes of the film is pretty much anti-comedy: a wasteland where zero jokes hit and the overall stupidity of the film hits you like a ten ton hammer. The big 'battle' scene in this one is nothing but a bunch of cameo actors trying too hard to be funny, and they all fall flat on their faces. It's really pathetic and quite cringe-worthy.
Ferrell and Rudd are really good in this and deliver some hard laughs, but Koechner and Carell almost sink it. Koechner is bad because he pretty much has nothing to do but act creepy, and Carell is bad because Brick is now out of the fringes and pushed to the forefront. He's overused to bad effect, and Carell has to TRY too damned hard in all of his moments. In the first film, it was subtle. Here, it's overt and overdone, and he's constantly mugging for the camera. This isn't the same character who brilliantly said 'I like lamp' in the first film with a deadpan expression and absolutely killed it.
Thankfully, the lady behind me loved the film and laughed enthusiastically throughout almost the entire runtime (except for the last 15 minutes...even she was quiet then). Her laughter was infectious and really helped the film play better than it should have.
Wait for disc on this one.Originally posted by MartinWho the fuck is Kellan Lutz?Originally posted by gravediggerBasically what I'm saying is that, based on what I've watched so far, we should all listen to Matt more often.Originally posted by MartinAnd who the FUCK is Peaches Geldof?

I know it's a bad movie, but fuck if I don't enjoy it.
I'd also like to think that George Lucas saw this flick and said "Yep, that kid who can't act needs to be the linchpin in my universe.""Looking like Nic Cage dressed in Kurt Cobain's closet. I mean that as a compliment" - BillyG
"Too cunty for wine bars, too dainty for real bars." - Anderson
