It's still Republican porn. The movie isn't so much of a message, as it is a cataloguing of the shit that has happened to America Post WWII.

At no time in the film is the action that happens portrayed as a good thing until you see Forrest being used to bring it back to normal (in-line with popular perspective). Forrest isn't an agent of change, he's an agent of order.

The only change comes from Jenny who is continually punished for her transgressions or forced into a submissive role by a man in the film.

She starts as child, victim, stripper, Playboy model, hippie devotee of another activist, junkie and then wife/mother.

She has no identity due to her role as Agent of Change because the Gumpverse doesn't permit it. The only people that get to live, change or progress are the people that accept that life is like a box of chocolates and then bend over and grit their teeth.

Those scenes were there because they were in the book. However, it's how Zemeckis frames the scenes that setups the Republican porn scenario.

It's not that Gump rats out Nixon, he's portrayed as a dumb dog doing what he thinks is required of him. It's not like Gump is actively trying to cause Watergate, he's just doing what's expected.

Pure mindless reaction rather than thoughtful decision.
