Amazing that the first film is 30 years old. Doesn't feel that old at all (weird that my bf is younger than the first film). Any love for the Alien films here? The less we speak of the AvP films, the better.

I like it a lot(3). It too has incredible atmosphere. The behind-the-scene troubles are well documented. Wish Fincher would have done more for the Quadrilogy.Touch it. Touch my fuzziness! It's like petting a kitten!

Alien is one of the best horror/scifi flicks ever. The amount of atmosphere in the flick is staggering. The sound design alone is fantastic. Still holds up today.
Aliens, while a decent action film, seems to not hold up as well in my opinion. While I'll still always love the Space Marines and the final battle, it tends to drag a bit in the middle.
Alien 3 is sorely underrated and the director's cut on the quadriology is pretty fantastic as it adds some much needed character beats.
I'm in the minority but I really dig Resurrection. The characters, while over the top, just seem like a bunch of badasses, and any time you can get Gravely Voice to be your main badass it's worth watching. The less said about the stupid newborn the better though.

I think the series is great. Hell, I really like Alien 3 and think parts of Alien Resurrection are really good, too. It's kind of weird to think that each entry really falls into a different genre. The first movie is probably the closest to horror, ALIENS is straight-up action, ALIEN 3 feels like a ponderous drama (you know, with an exploding dog alien), and ALIEN RESURRECTION is...buddy comedy, I guess.Comment
