Randy Quaid used to be a hell of an actor.

Indeed. I think this was the last thing I enjoyed him in that I can think of at the moment.

I need to watch Midnight Express again.

The breakdown that guy has towards the end. Amazing.

Good acting, even though everything post 1973 in the film was utter bullshit.

How so? That's what actually happened, the guy escaped by pretending to be a guard.

Although, I will say it's somewhat difficult to be sympathetic in the beginning because the guy making a huge fucking mistake.

Funny, how this movie was basically rehashed into Brokedown Palace.

Billy Hayes lied about large portions of his time there. Plus, Oliver Stone fudged the memoirs even more for the script.

There's sites that go into detail about what Hayes has recanted or what needed to be explained more.

Makes sense. I hadn't heard about the story being fabricated in parts.

Billy Hayes and Oliver Stone have made public apologies to the Turkish people over it. Hell, Hayes had a rather public apology tour organized about a decade ago.

That's not to say that Turkish prisons are great. It's just that shit didn't necessarily go down the way they were shown. Plus, Hayes was still convicted of international drug trafficking.

That's what I mean. It wasn't as if the guy was an innocent who just got jammed up. The guy was a criminal, granted the treatment was insanely fucked up. But still.

For my money, you want to see an American trapped in the hell of a foreign country. Go watch Missing.

And if you want to see Quaid act. Go check out The Last Detail.
