Same goes for the reveal of the kids' headspaces. Those were insanely well done.
Oh, and the story is really really good at striking the right balance between the fantastic and the humdrum aspects of growing up.
All of this.

I buy whichever kind is available so I can read it.
Softcovers are nice to roll up like a newspaper and fight people Bourne style, but hardcovers usually have cool stuff like scripts and character design as an added bonus. Whatever's there is goin' in the cart.

I don't buy HC unless I know I love the book.
I will be rebuying the HC of CHEW and Locke apparently.
Already re-bought all 6 of the Walking Dead HC"Looking like Nic Cage dressed in Kurt Cobain's closet. I mean that as a compliment" - BillyG

Blacksad.
It looks like the storyboards to a lost Disney movie (it is drawn by a former Disney artist, so durr), and operates in a world of Roger Rabbit meets Touch of Evil.
Gorgeous art, great noir storytelling.
Own it or I will crack you in the fucking brain with this here electric piano I stole from Schroeder.
Supersayanly.
