Tried downloading CCleaner and it shutdown IE. Maybe the firewall didn't like it.

A good article on why you shouldn't use a registry cleaner. I'd suggest just getting rid of Vista... hehe

I wish I could. Actually, this is for work. Some machines here have had a lot of crap put on them throught their lifetimes. Some machines seem to run more slowly than others and I was trying to eliminate some crashing issues we've had. That has more to do with a lack of RAM more than anything but I am trying to squeeze as much performance as I can out of these machines.

Well then I'm assuming you've defragged, cleaned up temp files, etc etc...

I know here we'd just back up data and do a reinstall...You could also go into the registry and start googling keys.

Oh yeah, I run AdAware often and defrag every week or so. I'm skittish about messing with the reegistry myself. Don't know enough about it.

Are you getting specific DLL errors or anything?

Re: A good free registry cleaner

No. Techs at night are getting freeze-ups and blue screens of death occasionally. I think it is a lack of RAM or something using it up so that the data collection software doesn't have enough. Our main software is a resource hog, so it needs as much memory as possible. I've talked with the manufacturer's tech support, and they weren;t much help beyond " Well, have you gotten the lastest version of the software."

Do these computer have decent HD space? Have you upped the VRAM?

HD space is fine. Don't know much about VRAM.

Re: A good free registry cleaner

If you right click on "My Computer" and click properties a new window pops up. Then select "advanced" Then click on settings under Performance. Then select Advanced again. Then go down where it says Virtual Memory and see what your setting are at. It basically uses HD space as if it were RAM. Usually the higher the better in most cases. Like right now, my work machine is set at 756 MB and I'm running 256 megs of actual ram. Just an idea to see if it works. It can't hurt to up it and see what happens.

I hope that didn't come off as patronizing. Lol. I'm just used to doing posts like that as I kinda do help desk work as part of my current job.
