      I know it's a bit of nostalgia talking but Phantasm really hits all major Batman topics for the most part:

      death
      quitting the cowl
      Bruce in love
      The Joker being his most Jokerist

          MASK OF THE PHANTASM is arguably the 'best' Batman movie overall. Really, really good.

            The source may be dubious (McWeeny) but I don't doubt the claims.

            Batman vs Superman is a steaming pile of poo and the WB suits are ready to throw Synder off Justice League altogether and hit a big fat Pause on everything that hasn't already started filming (Wonder Woman) and that isn't Batman.

                      The DC Animated Universe was truly lightning in a bottle - intelligent writing and engrossing storylines, terrific character designs by Bruce Timm, perfect voice casting, and it just nailed all the best aspects of DC Comics' characters and history. For me, it's the gold standard for every DC superhero project that's come after.

                      Now I want to rewatch all of 'em!
