  • Summer Box Office

I gotta go with Iron Man for a number of reasons; the pre-release buzz is damn positive, the trailers look great, and it's the first of the blockbusters to come out, ending a dry spell that's been going on since Rambo ended. Indy will probably be second highest, but competition this summer is intense. Here's a list of notable releases for your easy viewing pleasure:

    May 2 - Iron Man
    May 9 - Speed Racer
    May 16 - Prince Caspian
May 23 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
May 30 - Sex and the City (for the ladies in the audience!)
June 6 - Kung Fu Panda / You Don't Mess with the Zohan
June 13 - The Happening / The Incredible Hulk
June 20 - Get Smart / The Love Guru
    June 27 - Wall-E / Wanted
    July 2 - Hancock
July 11 - Hell Boy 2: The Golden Army
July 18 - The Dark Knight
    July 25 - Step Brothers / The X-Files 2
August 1 - The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (UGH!)
August 8 - The Pineapple Express
August 15 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars / Tropic Thunder
    August 29 - Babylon A.D.

If dates change, I'll update 'em. And if I missed something, let me know!

Dude, you really think Iron Man will make more than Wall-E? It's a Pixar film. I'm betting when all is said and done, Wall-E will have the biggest box office. Also Indy Jones may not do as well as people think.

I know how huge Pixar is, and I know how great Wall-E looks to me, but I think the concept may be a little too different for your average movie loaf. And Indy is such a huge name, that it's guaranteed to rake in some cash.

It does looks awesome, but we're talking box office here. Pixar movies always do gangbusters. And the buzz on this one is through the roof.

Now if this was the "Summer Awesome Movie Thread", then yes Iron Man.

I'm still going with Iron Man, but this may be a lot closer than I thought.

I'm still not swaying though! Iron Man will be like water to everyone suffering from this horrible movie drought! And look at the track record of animated features with robots as their main charcter! Ummm, The Iron Giant and Robots? There's no cutesy lil' animals this time around.

i'm going to have to go with ari. iron man has a pg-13 rating and considering spiderman 3 had over $150 million and the last time pixar broke $70 million was back in 2004 with the incredibles... also, the marketing on iron man has been amazing so far compared to wall-e.

I'm telling you, we are nerds. Nerds flock to superhero flicks. General public does when it's big name: Spiderman, Batman, The Hulk.

Iron Man is not that big of a property. It won't be Iron Man that sells this to the general public, it'll be RDJ. I'm not saying it won't do well, I'm saying that Wall-E will do better.

You ask most people about Spiderman they can tell you about Peter Parker or at least how he became spiderman. Everyone knows Spiderman.

Iron man? Not so much. And who cares about 1st week revenues. It's about staying power, and Pixar always goes for the long haul.

I'm not trying to hate on Iron Man because I can't wait to see it, I'm just being realistic.

In fact, I can see The Dark Knight doing better than Iron Man. Easily.

I see The Dark Knight doing huge business. Any film up there could be #1 (Maybe not so much for Prince Caspian, the more I think about it), but I gots a good feeling about Iron Man. Just watch, with my luck it will be the lowest grossing film out of the above five, and The Love Guru will make more money.
