Didn't see an all purpose James Bond thread. Let me know if I missed it.

So, it sounds like MGM's financial troubles have officially put Bond 23 on perma-hold. That really sucks, as I question whether or not Craig is gonna stick around.

Eh we have like two of em, not a big deal.

I hated Quantam of Solace. Bond SHOULD NOT equal BOURNE. Only reason I'm not a fan of the current Bonds. I mean, I hated Die Another Day like most people, but at least he had fucking gadgets.

I look at QoS as a learning experience for them...an anomaly of sorts. I don't think that THAT film is a permanent harbinger of the overall Bond direction.

I hope not. I like my Bond to be able to punch a guy in the face and also be able to use some crazy gadget that I'd kill my own mother to have.

On QoS: It's barely a film.

More like a "greatest hits" than anything else. Setpieces, hot women, and ridiculous shit that doesn't gel with this incarnation.

Sure, there's a little character growth, but at the expense of everything that made the revamp so appealing.

While in Royale, we see Bond using mostly realistic tech (in comparison to most Bond outings), QoS has MI6 operating out of a fucking iPOD. That sort of transition was just about as jarring as the editing of the opening car chase and that abysmal boat chase.

Royale had him getting his ass mostly handed to him. There was a sense that he was barely keeping everything afloat.

In QoS, it was all detached bullshit with no emotional core. Or logical one either. Everything screamed "SETPIECE!" and fuck all else.

See: killing the shit out of the guy in the hotel room in the beginning for no apparent reason.

The hotel at the end was the perfect simulacrum for the production: polished, modern, and utterly devoid of any human touch.

(Granted, that is Bond to a T, but not the Craig Bond from the first film.)

And now with the news of the next installment, where any validation for QoS exists, being halted because of MGM's current financial woes, it's an epic case of cinematic blue balls.

I really love Casino Royale, and really enjoy QoS. That is a film where I just am oblivious to the hate. I have had many back to back viewings of them.
