  • Patents on video game mechanics....An interesting read...

    http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...nnovation.html

I had no idea this was going on to tell the truth.

    From the article:
Sega owns patent no. 6,200,138, which is entitled "Game display method, moving direction indicating method, game apparatus and drive simulating apparatus." What this means is that Sega has a lock on the idea of driving a car around a city with an arrow pointing towards the next destination; it's a patent on Crazy Taxi, more or less.
Sega sued EA over Simpsons: Road Rage because they used an arrow to point to objectives. That is just ridiculous.

what i don't understand is why now? i mean simpsons: road rage was released back in 2001. what's up with all these delayed lawsuits? just like with dead rising? did these people just play these games just now? i don't get it.

Delayed lawsuits must be the new "hip" thing to do. I just filed one with the makers of He-Man, as I created Male-Guy in the early 80's, and they clearly ripped me off.

You would have created "Male-Guy in loincloth with rippling abs and pecs".

        You know, because you're gay.

          Don't forget the boys too!

In last week's Entertainment Weekly, they listed unicorns as the number 1 hottest thing right now. You should be pround Rob, you and EW are on the same level now.

oh what a coincidence, as i also created some cartoons when i was a mere child. which were blatantly copied. you might see some similarities in the names: H.E.L.M.E.T and lighteningdogs. i demand compensation!

EW tries so hard, but then their moronic critics open their mouths and destroy any good will EW may have earned.

I love how random this board is. The tangents in any given thread make me laugh.

We started at video games, went to 80's cartoons, and ended up at EW. Nice.
